(Mary) Leona Olausen Metis artist, born in Flin Flon Manitoba; the third child of a family of 12. In her early childhood she moved to Dunmore, Alberta. Her favorite childhood memory is lying out in the prairie fields on a warm summer day creating images in the clouds as they floated across the sky. Leona settled in Edmonton in her teens, married with children she moved to Chipman, Alberta, finally making Edmonton her permanent home.
Leona graduated from the University of Alberta Fine Arts Program in 2008. She is a devout art advocate volunteering for various venues in Edmonton. Her dedication to the arts earned her a job sharing position as assistant to the director of Visual Arts Alberta/CARFAC in 2013-15. She is a member of Visual Arts Alberta/CARFAC , and a Juried member of The Edmonton Art Club
As a practicing fine artist, Leona focuses on texture, movement and color in nature, with the intention of invoking a response from the viewer. Ventures in the Art Process include photography (Digital Manipulation), mixed media, the photographic image dictate the direction of each piece. Her next adventure is to teach art classes to those interested in learning her process. Leona's art studio can be found at Colours Art South 7359-104 Street Edmonton, Alberta.
